In Cajun country: Mamou
Louisiana = food and music.
Mamou, a town North West of Lafayette is claiming to be the Cajun music capital of the world. There’s nothing there, except Fred’s Lounge, a little bar open only on Saturdays from 8am to 1.30pm. Boy they know how to party at the weirdest time of the week! The place is as big as a living room and people dance around the band playing at the center. They put their best boots on for the occasion, add liquor to their light beers and smoke cigarettes like French would.
After the place closes we buy a pack of beers and treat ourselves to a campsite in Chicot state park, wasps and mosquitoes included.
