On the Northern Oregon Coast

This part of the Oregon coast is closer to Portland so more popular. In Tillamook we try some cheese, in Cannon Beach we look at luxury condos and the third biggest seastack in the world. Seaside is an old resort town that should be renamed kitschside. And at the very end of the coast, Astoria used to be the salmon canning capital of the world with 30 canneries. They were putting so much in cans that they almost emptied the river of all salmon. We can witness the city’s faded glory with the large repurposed industrial area and a downtown with some nice old buildings. Today they’re filled with breweries. One of them, Buoy, has a glass floor to watch seals under the building. Astoria is also where the Goonies were filmed but the house is privately owned and closed to any access.
