Crossing North Carolina

Driving East we can feel how we are going down in altitude, and higher in temperatures! We stop at Old Salem, an historic Moravian settlement. The Moravian Church is a Protestant denomination that originates in the country of Moravia, now part of the Czech republic. They started building this settlement in 1766. 70% of the historic district buildings are original, the rest has been reconstructed. The cemetery is an interesting sight because the Moravians are not buried by family but chronologically, and there is no statues or ornaments, everyone is represented as equals, rich or poor, with a single white tombstone.

We continue our drive to the coast and stop at Raleigh thinking downtown might be nice, but it was just ok and really tiny. There’s an art festival like the one we saw at Greenville, but smaller, and the heat makes it unbearable to walk around the stalls. So we get back in the car and drive to our Walmart by the coast, and just like that, the day is gone.
