On scenic byway 12
The drive from Capitol Reef to Bryce Canyon is an All-American road, the highest distinction for a scenic byway. This scenic byway 12 is actually the same we drove from Natural Bridges to Goblins Valley. Now the road goes up the Boulder mountain, offering views on the Grand Staircase National Monument. The mountain slopes are also covered in Aspen trees wearing their beautiful fall colors, a bright yellow. Further and back in the canyons, the “hogsback” stretch of road is on a narrow ridge of slickrock. In the afternoon we stop at the Kodachrome State Park, named by a National Geographic crew for its colors.
